Wellness and Preventive Medicine

Our focus is to help prevent disease and illness in your family's pets.  Our goal is to help you minimize the need to treat and cure preventable diseases.  Preventative medicine increases your pet's chances of having a long and healthy life.  We accomplish this through routine annual physical examinations of your pet, proper nutrition, parasite control, and through the use of a vaccination program based on an individualized risk assessment for your pet.

Animal Behaviour Consultations
An increasing number of products and training programs are available to help minimize or eliminate inappropriate behaviours in pets.  Please feel free to consult with our staff should you have any questions or concerns regarding your pet’s behaviour.

Dentistry

We do routine dental work such as cleaning and extractions by appointment.  A pre-dentistry examination is required before any dental surgery in order to determine what needs to be done, evaluate your pet's surgical health, and to provide a price quote.

Physical Examinations
A thorough examination allows us to pinpoint diseases before they develop.  Palpation of your pet from head to toe gives us the opportunity to not only locate unwanted guests but also allows us to feel internal organs that may be abnormally enlarged, or to locate other serious abnormalities.  Touch is the most developed tool in our arsenal of diagnostic instruments.  Naturally we do recommend having blood work processed yearly, similar to what your own doctor recommends, as this also provides us with valuable information that can only be retrieved through in-depth analysis.

Nutritional Consultations and Pet Foods

We have a wide selection of veterinary pet foods and treats for both cats and dogs that can help your pet live a long and happy life.  From adult maintenance diets to specially formulated diets, such as hypo-allergenic and kidney formulations, we have the diet that will suit your pet. If we do not carry the specific brand of food that you need, we can often order it in for you.

We have a full surgery suite which is well equipped with everything needed to perform a large range of surgical procedures, both routine and emergency.

Radiology
In-house radiology equipment enables our hospital to take and process digital x-rays on-site, thereby allowing us to diagnose any malformations that may be affecting your pet.  This ensures that an injured pet is treated promptly and on the road to a speedy recovery.
We can then quickly determine the appropriate course of action, medical and/or surgical.

Medical Diagnostics

We have an in-house laboratory that provides fast results to quickly diagnose health problems.  The lab includes equipment for organ function screening, blood counts, urine and fecal analysis, and certain virus detection to name a few.

Hospitalized Patients
If your pet needs to stay in the hospital, they will be safe in their own space.  Depending on the length of their stay, we will provide food and water, and keep them warm and comfortable during this time.  Cats and dogs are kept in separate rooms, and there is an additional separate isolation kennel for any animals that we may consider a disease risk to other patients in the hospital.

Pet Boarding Facilities
We are also offering cat and dog boarding facilities.  Dog boarding facilities include climate control, individual runs and care provided by qualified veterinary technicians.  Dogs are kept in comfortable, safe and secure runs and are taken outside several times per day either leash walked or in our fenced-in, secure area.  If your dog is social, he/she will have the opportunity to play with other dogs while here.
Cat boarding facilities include safe and secure cages with ample blankets and frequent litter changes.  There is plenty of "out of cage" time where your cat has ample space, lots of toys to play with, and window sills with views of both St. Margaret's Bay Road and Peggy's Cove Road.

For boarding: Your pets' required vaccinations must be up-to-date, he/she must be neutered/spayed, and their own food must be brought for their stay with us. Drop off/pick up is available on Sundays and holidays by appointment.
