SPRING IS HERE AND TICKS ARE IN FULL BLOOM!

Spring is here and the ticks have returned! It is time to protect your dog against ticks. Ticks bring the threat of Lyme Disease, and cases of this disease continue to increase in our area each year.

~If Lyme Disease is detected early it can be treated with a course of antibiotics. Sadly, over 90 % of dogs infected with Lyme Disease show no symptoms. We can perform a quick blood test on your dog to check if he/she has Lyme Disease. This same test also checks forHeartworm Disease and two other tick borne diseases.

~ Lyme vaccines are available to prevent this disease should your dog come in contact with an infected tick. All dogs that may come into contact with ticks should be vaccinated.

~ To prevent ticks and fleas from infesting your dog we have monthly drops called Advantix. We also have a tick collar available called Preventic.

~Modifying your pet's lifestyle during tick season can be helpful. Keep him / her out of areas that are wooded or have long grass. Ticks bloom in the more temperate weather of Spring and Fall.

Call us at 613-382-3429 to discuss or drop by the clinic to talk about options on how to prevent ticks from hitching a ride on your dog!
